Robbie Williams on course for UK's 1,000th No.1 album

Robbie Williams is set to land the honour of having the UK's 1,000th No.1 album.

The milestone will be celebrated on Sunday (November 24) and it looks like the Take That man's 'Swings Both Ways' will reign supreme when the list is unveiled.

The Official Charts Company confirmed today (November 19) that Williams is beating his closest rivals Jake Bugg and JLS.

The former has released his second album 'Shangri La' whilst the latter have unleashed their greatest hits compilation 'Goodbye'.

The UK has been collating data on albums since 1956, when Frank Sinatra's 'Songs For Swingin' Lovers' hit the top spot.

The Beatles meanwhile have had the most No.1 albums since then - 15 in total - whilst Elvis has had had 11.

The Official Charts Company's chief executive Martin Talbot meanwhile commented: "The race is on – and it is fitting that Robbie Williams is in the lead to become the 1000th Official Number 1 Album. His new album 'Swings Both Ways' echoes the very first Number 1 album, Frank 'Sinatra's Songs For Swingin' Lovers' – and Robbie is a genuine legend of the Official Albums Chart."
