LUCY-MAY ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND FORTHCOMING ALBUM

Her debut single shot onto the Radio 2 playlist, with a debut album that made ‘Highly Recommended’ in HMV, now the soulful UK singer/songwriter returns with her highly anticipated follow up album and UK tour

Known for her unique soulful vocals and relatable lyrics, UK singer/songwriter Lucy-May announces the release of her new single, ‘Counting The Days’  on 11 August, the lead track to be taken from her highly anticipated follow-up second album, out this Autumn.  Her debut single ‘Paper Heart’ reached Radio 2 playlist in 2013 and her debut album ‘Whirlwind’ proudly boasted the highly sought after ‘Highly Recommend’ position at HMV.  Now with a complete catalogue of fresh original material in the shape of her follow-up album and a UK tour planned for the Autumn, Lucy-May is back with a sound which surpasses anything she’s ever done before.

Deep, rich and deliciously soulful, ‘Counting The Days’ is the first single from Lucy-May’s forthcoming album and serves up a mouth-watering slice of chilled soul/pop heaven, written by Lucy-May and Greg Fitzgerald.  A semi-biographical track about love-loss, ‘Counting The Days’ was written from the raw emotions felt when Greg’s wife died in 2016, running in tandem with Lucy-May’s relationship break down.  Both faced with different reasons for love-loss, but left with the same bitter, painful scars which found them counting the days since love went from their lives.  Unable to actually ‘speak’ about their pain, but knowing that their emotions were mirrored in each other, the pair poured their heart wrenching loss into song.   Laying bare the rawness of that pain for all to see, Lucy-May’s stunning vocals convey a pure emotion and sentiment that’s nothing short of nerve tingling.

Kent born Lucy-May was put on this planet to perform, competing and winning a string of national dance competitions from the age of 6 and performing in Annie by the time she was 11.  Reared on a musical diet of 60s sounds, Lucy-May names Dusty Springfield, as her ultimate idol, with influences including Patsy Cline, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles.  This explains this artist’s unique blend of gorgeous soulful/country-flecked melodies, fused with a modern twist; a sound which gives her a distinct sound-out from anything else we’re hearing from the industry right now.  A student of the renowned Brit School (in the same year group as Amy Winehouse), Lucy-May took to modelling and joined an R&B Soul girl band called ‘Urban Lady’.  Performing to an underground club crowd, the band supported the likes of Alexander O’Neal, Jo and Genuine.  After the band split, Lucy-May took to writing in earnest and took up learning the guitar. Self-taught, Lucy-May worked tirelessly with her guitar to develop her sound and lyrical ability.

Her debut single, ‘Paper Heart’, a strong country flecked ballad, stormed onto the Radio 2 playlist, played first by Terry Wogan on his Sunday show.  A fortuitous meeting with Jeff Cohen in Nashville led to a writing collaboration which led to the creation of her debut album ‘Whirlwind’ in 2015 – an album which sat proudly on the ‘Highly Recommend’ shelf of HMV during first week of release. Demand for Lucy-May to hit the live circuit poured in.  She was called to open for Michael Bolton on the UK leg of his world tour including a performance at The Royal Albert Hall, as well as supporting the likes of Robben Ford, Ashely Monroe at Bush Hall, Kristian Bush at Brooklyn Bowl, Striking Matches full UK tour support including Union Chapel, Larkin Poe and Gabrielle.

Now, Smarter, sharper and wiser to the industry, Lucy-May has greater control of her second album, demanding full interaction with the creation process and deciding to write and record fully in the UK.  Connected back with Greg Fitzgerald (the producer of her debut single ‘Paper Heart’), Lucy-May discovered the writing and production chemistry between the two was phenomenal.  With the maturity of life providing the lyrical subject matter and an evolved musical approach as her creative canvass, Lucy-May now presents us with her most captivating and stunning work to date.  Delivering our first taster in the form of ‘Counting The Days’ – stunning sentiment in melodic form.

Lucy-May will tour the UK throughout November, in parallel with the release of her highly anticipated follow up album  – dates to follow.

The single ‘Counting The Days’ is released through Absolute on 11 August
