Shawn Mendes on 'Treat You Better': 'We wrote it in six hours then forgot about it'

Canadian hitmaker Shawn Mendes just released his new single 'Treat You Better' and opened up about the creative process that led to the birth of the track.

During a new interview with BBC Radio 1, the star explained that the new single was written really quickly and subsequently forgotten about, but he's so glad they discovered it again when going through the work they had done:

"This song is kind of - we're in the process of writing the album - we wrote it in one random day, in about six hours, and kind of forgot about it. When it was time to choose a single, we were going through the songs it was like, 'holy crap, I can't believe we wrote this song.' It's one of those things that felt so right, so I am super excited to put it out there."

The heartthrob also confessed that he's currently staying at a residence in upstate New York while working on his new album and joked that the solitude is getting to him a little bit:

"It's really good because I have three or four writers that I work with, so we come out here for a week or two and there are no distractions - you can't do anything. You go a little bit mad, though. I'm going a little bit crazy. I haven't seen a female in about ten days, so it's getting weird. I haven't, I've seen a few deer but no bears!"
