The xx lead albums chart race with new record 'Coexist'

There are a staggering 12 new entries in today's midweek albums chart update, but The xx have landed the coveted No.1 position with their new offering, 'Coexist'.

The group's sophomore album is currently outselling its closest competitor, which is The Script's '#3' (No.2), by 6,500 copies at this mid-point stage.

Bob Dylan's 'Tempest' is a new entry at No.3, Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' has climbed 16 places to No.4 after their involvement at last weekend's Paralympic Closing Ceremony, and Joe McElderry's 'Here's What I Believe' has debuted at No.9.

Melanie C has made an appearance at 27 with 'Stages', Maroon 5's 'Overexposed' has dropped 14 positions to No.27, and The xx's debut album 'xx' is now at 38.
