5SOS: 'We made a new group text chat without Michael while he's not with us'

Aussie pop-punkers 5 Seconds Of Summer are currently in the UK without guitarist Michael Clifford, who lost his passport in America and was unable to travel with them.

Bass player Calum Hood told BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw this morning (December 9) that he and the rest of the lads made a new group chat on their phones for while they're in the UK so as not to upset Clifford with details about the fun they're having.

He explained that it seemed like the best thing to do given the circumstances: "We normally have a group text but he's not in it. We're making plans so you don't want to have him it (laughs). Where is he? New York?"

The band's drummer, Ashton Irwin, went onto add that Clifford is in Manhattan and he's just enjoying some unscheduled down time while he figures out getting a new passport: "He's just relaxing having a bit of Michael time."

Clifford, meanwhile, took to his official Twitter page last night and told his fans that he's really sad to be away from his bandmates and is upset to be missing out: "I saw a picture of my band eating @NandosUK and I couldn't be sadder. I'll be over here in the corner."
