One Direction star Harry Styles has expressed his delight at seeing Tate Stevens crowned winner of the US X Factor.

The country singer reigned supreme last night (December 20) in the showpiece final, beating off competition from 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar.

He is only the second winner of the show, with the US edition only starting in 2011.

One Direction performed on the show and it seems Stevens' win had something of an effect on the British singer, who tweeted:

"Congratulations @tatestevensctry you deserve it!! Such a nice guy...Great to see him win."

One Direction also performed on the final of the UK X Factor recently, which was won by James Arthur.
