Man found guilty of murder at Jessie J BlackBerry event

A man has been found guilty of murder after attacking a fellow gig-goer with a bottle at a Jessie J BlackBerry promotional event in London.

Ashley Charles, 26, was attending the Jessie J headlined event at the Pulse nightclub in south London in April when he attacked 36-year-old Phillip Sherriff's neck with a bottle, which ultimately led to his death.

Charles has been found guilty of murder at a hearing at the Old Bailey today (November 9) and he will serve a minimum of 14 years in prison.

The victim was taken to hospital on the night of the attack but he died four days later in hospital.

Bouncers at the event told the court that Charles told them: "Is he okay? I wish I had not done that. It was a stupid mistake."

Det Insp Richard Beadle, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: "I hope his conviction will bring some sense of justice to the family who have been devastated by Philip's murder. He truly was a decent, hard-working family man who in no way contributed to his own demise. This case highlights that one single second of aggression has fatal consequences for some and a life-changing impact on so many."
