Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin surprises Bristol gig goers with Beach Boys rendition

Fans of The Mouldy Peaches’ ex front man Adam Green were in for a shock earlier this week when, during a gig at the Thekla in Bristol, he announced the arrival of a special guest – none other than Home Alone hero Macaulay Culkin.

Culkin, famous for playing the cult film's main character Kevin McCallister, was confirmed as the real deal after initial scepticism by the surprised crowd.

Green – who was missing the presence of touring partner Binki Shapiro – invited Culkin to join him on stage for the gig’s encore which turned out to include a cover of The Beach Boys track ‘Kokomo'. The two have worked together previously on Green’s 2012 experimental film ‘The Wrong Ferrari’.

At first, the 32-year-old Hollywood child prodigy Culkin had difficulty convincing the 200-strong crowd of his true identity. A spokeswoman for the Thekla, an old converted cargo ship which now serves as a music venue, had this to say on the crowd’s reaction:

“Adam said we’d recognise him from Home Alone, but still nobody believed it.

"When he got on stage it was surreal at first, then people started realising it was him.”

Culkin, wearing his bleach-blond hair in a pony tail and dark glasses, had to shout to fans:

“I’ve come all the way from America.”

The Home Alone star has drifted into obscurity since his childhood successes, and was forced to fight off resounding drug addiction claims last year. However, this attempt to return to the limelight is said to have failed to rock the boat and he and Green’s cover of ‘Kokomo’ has been described by a reviewer as “truly dismal”.
