Harry Connick Jr. to be American Idol judge

Harry Connick Jr. is set to appear on the judging panel of the upcoming season of American Idol.

The Grammy-award winning musician will be joining the talent show panel alongside Jennifer Lopez – who will be returning after taking the last season off – and Keith Urban for American Idol’s thirteenth series.

Randy Jackson will be taking over the mentoring position from Jimmy Iovine.

The 45-year-old singer and actor has previously appeared on the television show as a mentor, performer and guest judge.

Connick first revealed that he had been approached by Fox back in May.

On what makes a good American Idol judge, Harry previously stated: “I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic. I think there's no reason to be mean, but it is called being a judge. You have to judge. That's what you do.”

An unnamed source from Fox confirmed Harry Connick Jr.’s appointment to both E! News and Us Weekly.

Previous American Idol judge Nicki Minaj said her experience on the show had been “a blessing.”
