5SOS overwhelmed at playing the same venue as their idols Green Day: 'What a dream'

Later tonight (June 6), Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer will open for One Direction at London's iconic Wembley Stadium and the lads revealed their excitement at taking the stage at such a famous venue.

Member Calum Hood confessed that he can't believe his band will perform there today because their idols, Green Day, have previously played the stadium and that makes it even more exciting: "Can't believe we're playing the same place as Green day!! What a dream. Can't wait."

Hood also shared a photograph of himself giving a thumbs up to a picture of Green Day on stage at Wembley Stadium in the backstage area, which can be seen above left.

Drummer Ashton Irwin also shared a tweet about tonight's concert, adding: "Can't believe we are playing a set here tonight, so crazy, can't thank the other lads enough for the chance too."

Green Day have been a big influence on the 5SOS boys and they recently recorded a tribute cover for an upcoming edition of Kerrang! magazine in the UK. Irwin also previously credited the 'American Idiot' punk rockers with inspiring him to pursue a career in music: "My favourite recording in history (Green Day's 'Bullet In A Bible'). Helped me discover what I wanted to do in life... Rock out and entertain people!"
