Goldfinger star John Feldmann has praised 5 Seconds of Summer after working on their debut album.

The musician teamed up with the young Australians to produce their self-titled first record, as well as co-write some tracks.

Speaking to Billboard, Feldmann said that the pop-punk quartet don't fall in the same category as other "Simon Cowell" acts who may be manufactured.

He said: "They’re real writers and talented musicians. There was no formulaic Simon Cowell-finding-a-bunch-of-handsome-guys. It’s just 6-foot-3 dudes from Australia who loved the same kind of music and put a band together."

The band are featured in Billboard magazine after securing a No.1 on the US albums chart.

They are currently on tour supporting One Direction in North America.
