5SOS inspired by Green Day to branch out into musicals

5 Seconds of Summer have suggested they would be interested in branching out into theatre and musicals.

The group told Rolling Stone that they are heavily inspired by Green Day's diversification of the late 2000s.

The US band's 2005 rock opera 'American Idiot' was made in a Broadway musical in 2009.

5 Seconds of Summer bassist Calum Hood said his own group are keen to follow Green Day into trying new things.

He said: "Green Day have been put in a position where they can make a f*cking Broadway musical.

"That’s something we'd love to have our hand in, not just making albums. To do that kind of stuff is amazing."

Speaking about a nine-minute song on Green Day's 'American Idiot', Hood added:

"I was like, 'How did they write 'Jesus of Suburbia?'.

"How did they put all these things together and make it flow even though there's like 10 different parts and they're all dramatically different and dynamic in how they sound? It really intrigued me."
