5SOS star doesn't like boyband tag: 'I want our sound to evolve'

5 Seconds of Summer bassist Calum Hood says he is fed up of people calling the group a boyband - as well as pop-punk.

The Australians have been associated with the tags ever since their formation over four years ago.

The boyband association was straightened after the quartet supported One Direction on tour.

However, Hood told Rolling Stone that they don't like those labels and expressed a willingness for 5 Seconds of Summer's sound to grow in the future.

He said: "It's just as isolating as being called a boy band, you know, being [called] a pop-punk band.

"I don't want to make just one type of music. I really want to evolve as a band with our sound. Bands like U2 have songs which are almost completely different genres, and that's what I love."

Drummer Ashton Irwin meanwhile revealed his hopes for the band to one day headline stadiums:

"We really want to make it to stadiums, man. We dreamt of getting to arenas and, some-f*cking-how, we did.

"We want to be a people's band, like everyone: 'Yeah, let's go to the 5SOS concert'. Just like everyone would go to an AC/DC concert or a Foo Fighters concert. A people's band."
