5SOS on struggling with fame and industry perceptions

Aussie pop-punk quartet 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that people constantly doubt the authenticity of their band's humble origins, but they don't care if people believe they met while they were at school because they formed naturally and have a great dynamic as a result of that fact.

During an entertaining new interview with the Rolling Stone, entitled '21 Things You Learn Hanging Out With 5 Seconds Of Summer', the band confessed that they're used to being victimised by the media and have learned to brush off rumours and silly remarks. Frontman Luke Hemmings explained: "People thought we were making it up the whole 'We met at school thing.' That was half the reason people called us a boy band."

He continued: "We don't really care anymore, because f**k those guys – we met in school. We're all from very un-wealthy families, and we came together more naturally than most bands do. In this industry, people want to cut us down."

Drummer Ashton Irwin recently opened up about what fans might be able to expect from their upcoming new tour: "You go out there and play a few songs and then you go out there and do an encore. I want to do something cooler. Maybe start out with 'Carry On' and end with 'Carry On' and then maybe try some different things, take inspiration from Queen and use some piano. I just want to make it cooler and make it challenging. I got bored of the show last year. After 70 times, I was like, 'Ah ...' I loved it, I loved the fans there and the energy of the show, but it wasn't really challenging."
