Kian Egan says One Direction's record sales are nothing compared to Westlife's

Kian Egan has taken a shot at One Direction's sales figures.

The British-Irish boyband are currently the hottest property in the market and their last album 'Midnight Memories' was the best-selling record of 2013 in the UK.

However, Irish singer Egan told the Daily Star that the figures for his former band Westlife would have dwarfed that of One Direction.

He said: “I was told the other day that One Direction’s album sold around 700,000 copies in the UK and it was the biggest-selling album of the year. Back in the day with Westlife, that would have been fairly poor, we were selling more like 1.7 or 1.8million. Times have changed.

“There were loads of bands around then – Blue, Steps, A1, S Club – there was room for all of us. But now there’s only really room for one One Direction.”

Egan meanwhile released his debut solo album 'Home' on Monday (March 17).
