Lorde criticises media's "lecherous gaze" after airport scuffle

Lorde has slammed some sections of the media after being harassed at a New Zealand airport.

The singer was returning home after a successful Grammy haul at the weekend, but it seems she was less then impressed with the awaiting media at Auckland Airport.

Writing in a batch of now-deleted messages on Twitter, the 'Royals' star said that she and her family were almost knocked over by a scrum of photographers and press hacks.

She said: "I know that success comes with a price tag. It just sucks when you see that in your tiny home country where you previously felt safe. There is a difference between attn from fans, which I love, and the constant, often lecherous gaze that I'm subjected to in this industry."

Lorde continued: "I understand that people of note are supposedly fair game for everyone to photograph and film but that doesn't make it acceptable. NZ media almost pushed over myself and my family at the airport this morning in order to get their shots, bit of a sad welcome if I'm honest."

The 17-year-old starlet meanwhile bagged the song of the year and best pop solo performance Grammy Awards for her smash hit tune 'Royals'.
