Sinitta unsurprised by Zayn Malik quitting tour: 'Sometimes you need a break'

Sinitta says she is not surprised by Zayn Malik leaving One Direction's current tour.

As previously reported, the singer has returned to the UK after suffering from "stress" on the road.

The group will perform as a four-piece for at least the next three shows on their world tour.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, Sinitta - who used to be in a relationship with One Direction boss Simon Cowell - said that she expected something like this to happen.

The singer said: "All I know is that the guys have worked non-stop, tirelessly since they left [the X Factor in 2010]. You know, it's got to build up.

"You see a lot of young artists go and do that. They go and go and go and go, and you've got your youth and adrenaline to run on, sometimes you just need a break."

Sinitta added to BBC Newsbeat that she feels Cowell and his label Syco haven't been pushing the band too hard:

"They are hungry, they are excited, they want to go and meet all the fans. They're trying to meet all the fans' demands and not leave anybody out.

"But it's hard to be there for everybody all the time, but we've only got One Direction."
