Mum thanks Harry Styles after he reaches out to cancer patient daughter

A mother of a young cancer patient has spoken of the boost her daughter received after Harry Styles called her "amazing".

Nine-year-old Mackenzie Furniss from Scotland recently starred in a video that saw the child dance to One Direction's 'Live While We're Young' during a chemotherapy session.

The inspirational 1D fan is suffering from the cancer neuroblastoma and it is said she has just months to live.

Styles, however, came across the video and tweeted her dad: "Hi mate, my friend Will sent me this video. It’s amazing. Hope you’re well and get in touch."

Speaking to the Daily Record, Mackenzie's mum Kimberley said that her strong cancer-stricken daughter has been lifted immensely by Styles' message. She said:

"We made the video a couple of months ago and put it on YouTube. Mackenzie often takes her iPad to chemotherapy treatment and loves to dance along to her favourite songs. It’s a good distraction although she never complains and just does what she has to do to get better."

The mother continued: “We only realised about Harry Styles when Mackenzie’s iPad started going crazy last week with messages from One Direction fans who had seen his tweet. Jason tweeted him back and asked him to follow Mackenzie on Twitter and he did. It was great because it gave her such a boost. She’s been a bit down because she has been having treatment in London to help shrink the tumours and couldn’t be near her sisters as she was radioactive.

“But this gave her a big boost and she was back to her old self. She’s a huge One Direction fan and went to see them in concert in Glasgow earlier this year so she was so excited and was very late getting to bed that night. But Zayn is actually her favourite."

Mackenzie's family meanwhile are trying to raise £350,000 for treatment in Germany that isn't available in the UK.
