Adele has today (September 8) broken Official Charts history by becoming the first artist in history to sell over 3 million copies of an album in just one calendar year. 

She achieved the incredible feat with her sophomore record, '21', which was also nominated for the Mercury Prize, and has now made music industry history by shifting over 3 million copies of it since its release on January 24, 2011. 

This amazing achievement has also put her among the ranks of the best-selling British female artists of all time along with Leona Lewis, who sold 3.03m copies of 'Spirit', and the late Amy Winehouse, whose 'Back To Black' shifted 3.29m copies.
