Chairmen of The Board singer dies

General Norman Johnson, singer and frontman of Chairmen of The Board, has passed away aged 67.

According to the LA Times, Johnson died at his home in Atlanta on Wednesday (October 13). A cause of death has not yet been announced.

Johnson’s music career began aged 6, when he sang in the church choir. His first recording would come six years later, on Atlantic records, with his first group, The Humdingers. The band would later change its name to The Showmen and, despite a couple of hits, the band went their separate ways in 1968.

Johnson briefly attempted a failed solo career before forming his next band, Chairmen of The Board. A Detroit-based soul group, the band proved popular in the late 60s to mid-70s. Their hits include ‘Give Me Just A Little More Time’, ‘Everything’s Tuesday’, and ‘Finders Keepers’.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Julia, two sons and a daughter.
