Arctic Monkeys' 'AM' debuts at No. 1 on UK album chart

Sheffield four-piece Arctic Monkeys have achieved their fifth No. 1 UK album with their latest LP ‘AM’.

Arctic Monkeys are the first ever indie-released act to rack up a succession of five No. 1 albums in a row.

The band's previous four albums - 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', 'Humbug' and 'Suck It And See' - all also debuted at No. 1 upon release.

‘AM’ is also the second fastest-selling album of the year so far having shifted 157,000 in it’s first week. Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ set the pace earlier this year when the French electro duo’s latest LP sold 165,000 units back in its first week on sale in May.

Other new high entries to this week’s album chart come from London Grammar with ‘If You Wait’ straight in at No. 2, Goldfrapp’s ‘Tales Of Us’ in at No. 4 and The Strypes’ debut LP ‘Snapshot’ charting at No. 5.

Last week’s chart-topping album from The 1975 has now slipped two places to No. 3.

Outside of the top five there are new entries from The Weeknd at No. 12 with ‘Kiss Land’, ‘The Clash Hits Back’ Best Of collection just behind at No. 13 and Janelle Monae’s ‘The Electric Lady’ debuting at No. 14.
