Britney Spears named VH1 'Save the Music' ambassador

Britney Spears has been named one of VH1's 'Save the Music' ambassadors.

She will join the likes of Cher Lloyd who is also one of this year's ambassador's for VH1's campaign. Previous ambassadors include Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Jason Mraz and Kelly Clarkson.

'Save the Music' is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America's public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child's complete education.

Since 1997 the campaign has raised $51m in new musical instruments, and 2.3m children have directly benefited from its efforts.

Spears' eighth album, 'Britney Jean,' is scheduled for a December 3 release in the U.S. lead single 'Work Bitch' has peaked at No. 12 on the Hot 100, while follow-up 'Perfume' was released earlier this week.

Spears' starts her Las Vegas residency on December 27 which is scheduled to continue until 2015.
