Katy Perry almost missed out on recording 'Teenage Dream'

It appears that Katy Perry was close to missing out on recording her hit single ‘Teenage Dream’.

The revelation came courtesy of Bonnie McKee who wrote the 2010 track for Perry.

Bonnie McKee has written a number of tunes for Katy Perry including ‘California Gurls’, ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)’, ‘Part Of Me’ and ‘Wide Awake’.

Katy Perry’s near miss was due to McKee liking the song so much that she wanted to record it for herself.

Talking to US radio station 92.3 Now, McKee explained: “I loved 'Teenage Dream'. I think that was my favourite one and that was a hard one for me to give up because I've had that teenage theme kind of throughout my music.”

However she conceded that she believed ‘Teenage Dream’ would not “have been a hit” if Katy Perry had not sang it.

Katy Perry is one of many stars who make an appearance in 29-year-old McKee’s music video ‘American Girl’.

Bonnie McKee has also worked on songs for the likes of Britney Spears, Ke$ha and Carly Rae Jepsen.
