Police deny they are reopening Kurt Cobain case after new death scene photos emerge

Police have dismissed reports that they have reopened the case into Kurt Cobain's death after they released new images from his suicide scene.

The Nirvana frontman killed himself on April 5, 1994 by shooting himself with a shotgun in Seattle after taking a lethal dose of heroin.

Police have confirmed that they have been "reviewing" the case as a result of expected interest as his death approaches its 20th anniversary.

They found some new photos from his suicide scene - showing drug paraphernalia and what appears to be his wallet - and this led people to report that police were officially reopening the case, which has been subject to conspiracy theories over the years.

However, cops said on Twitter: "Despite an erroneous news report, we have not 'reopened' the investigation into the suicide of Kurt Cobain. Our detective reviewed the case file anticipating questions surrounding the closed Cobain case as the 20 yr anniversary approaches."

Some believe that Cobain in fact was murdered, possibly by his wife Courtney Love.
