The Maccabees secure UK No.1 with new album 'Marks To Prove It'

Indie rockers The Maccabees have claimed their first Official Albums Chart No.1 tonight (August 7) with their fourth studio album 'Marks To Prove It'.

After an incredibly close battle this week with Lianne La Havas’ 'Blood', which finished at No.2, the London-based band finish the week ahead by 1,300 combined chart sales. Guitarist Felix White told the Official Charts: “We are very proud that our fourth album has given us our first Number 1. Thank you so much to everyone that bought it and for staying with us all these years.”

Down one place to Number 3 today is Years & Years’ 'Communion', followed by Ed Sheeran’s 'x' at No.4 and Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour is at 5.

Led Zeppelin score three entries in this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 40 with the deluxe reissues of 1982’s 'Coda' (9), 1976’s 'Presence' (10) and 1979’s 'In Through The Out Door' (12).

Joss Stone scores her sixth UK Top 40 with 'Water For Your Soul' (13), while elsewhere, The Clash’s 1979 release 'London Calling' re-enters the Top 40 at Number 21 this week, and Foo Fighters’ 'Greatest Hits' climbs 19 places to No.22.

Country pop duo The Shires score this week’s highest climber with their debut 'Brave', which is up 48 places to No.24. Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 'Legend' (31), Queen’s 'Greatest Hits' (36) and Drake’s 'If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late' (39) all also re-enter the Top 40 today.
