Selena Gomez says 13 Reasons Why director will 'bring it to life'

'Hands To Myself' songstress Selena Gomez has confirmed that 49-year-old actor-turned-director Tom McCarthy will direct her forthcoming Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why.

McCarthy (pictured below), who is nominated for two Oscars for the movie Spotlight, will also act as executive producer for the project. Tweeting about the exciting news this weekend, Gomez told her followers that he will 'bring the show to life':

"SO excited! Tom is going to bring this to life in a unbelievable way. Good luck at the Oscars! #SpotlightMovie."

Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, bought the screen rights to Jay Asher's YA novel 13 Reasons Why last year and it will be heading to Netflix in episode form in the future. The story follows a boy named Clay Jensen, who discovers cassette tapes recorded by his dead school crush. On the tapes, she details the 13 reasons why she decided to end her own life.
