Sting has written song in tribute to late star Prince for new album

Sting has penned a track in honour of Prince on his new album.

The singer told Rolling Stone that the song '50,000' will feature on his first pop record in 17 years.

The album will be called '57th & 9th', with the record still in production.

Sting said: "Mortality does sort of rear its head, particularly at my age – I'm 64.

"It's really a comment on how shocked we all are when one of our cultural icons dies: Prince, David [Bowie], Glenn Frey, Lemmy. They are our gods, in a way.

"So when they die, we have to question our own immortality. Even I, as a rock star, have to question my own. And the sort of bittersweet realization that hubris doesn't mean anything in the end."

Sting added that he wrote the song in the week of Prince's death in April.
