Matt Cardle has self-penned songs at the ready

Matt Cardle has revealed that he has “half an album’ of self-penned tracks already written for his debut album.

The ‘X Factor’ winner, who’s a shoe in for the Christmas No 1 with Biffy Clyro cover ‘When We Collide’ said to Playlist’s James Cabooter: “I have half an album’s worth of songs already written which I’m really excited about.

“I am improving as a songwriter all the time and really rate the tracks.

“I want to write an album like Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, something gritty.”

The star also revealed that he wants to distance himself from the show after his victory and aims for a career path similar to that of 2006 winner Leona Lewis.

“Joe [McElderry, last year’s winner], bless him, is a very ‘X Factor’ thing, but Leona isn’t – she’s transcended the show.

“Like her, I want to quickly shed the ‘X Factor’ skin.”
