Eliza Doolittle plays Facebook's first virtual gig

Eliza Doolittle played an exclusive gig last night, May 18, to an empty London jazz club and virtual audience who were logged in through a social networking website.

The performance was streamed to fans through Facebook and the 'Skinny Genes' singer told the Press Association before it began that although it's a great idea, it's hard as an artist to gauge how well the concert is going because there's no crowd interaction:

"I am honoured that this is the first UK live gig on Facebook, I can't believe it hasn't been done before,"

"I did a live stream in New York before, and it's kind of weird not being able to talk back to anyone, not hearing the applause, not seeing any faces and not knowing if it is all going well or not."

She also explained that she sees a definite future in virtual gigs and added:

"I definitely see a future on YouTube. People already put up covers and songs on there, so why not do it live? It gives the artist an edge then,"
