Ghostface Killah files lawsuit against Universal Music

Ghostface Killah has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group for allegedly violating his record contract and stiffing him on copyright royalties.

The rapper (real name Dennis Coles) claims that UMG holds a 25 per cent stake in Wu-Tang Clan songs, but have been taking 50 per cent. The suit has evolved out of a previous case, in which a judge ruled in Coles' favour when he sued Wu-Tang Productions and the Clan's frontman, RZA, over withholding his royalties.

Coles is currently involved in another lawsuit from Jack Urbont, a veteran Hollywood composer who wrote the 'Iron Man Theme' music sampled on the rapper's 2000 album, 'Supreme Clientele'.

Last week, Coles' attorneys made an argument to a federal judge as to why the case should be dismissed, focusing mainly on the fact that Urbont waited over a decade to pursue legal action after the release of the record.
