Red Hot Chili Peppers plan UK gigs to "coordinate" with 2012 Olympics

Red Hot Chili Peppers have revealed that they return to the UK in 2012 for a series of gigs that will "coordinate" with the Olympic Games.

The band, who shot to the top of the UK albums chart on Sunday (September 4) with 'I'm With You', told BBC's Radio 1 that they intend to plan shows around the world famous sporting event.

This news has set tongues wagging as no performers have actually been confirmed for the Games yet.

"I think that we'll come and play over here next year. We know that the Olympics are over here and we thought maybe we'll coordinate."

The band also played a special set at London's KOKO on Friday, September 2 and drummer Chad Smith admitted to Newsbeat that they're all really content with the new line up:

"It's very new, exciting energy for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The people were really very responsive. We played a lot of new stuff and they seemed to enjoy it. We're just having a great time playing together right now."
