Sandy Hook school children record 'Over The Rainbow'

The children who survived the gun rampage at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School last month have recorded a version of 'Over The Rainbow' for their slain classmates and staff members.

Twenty-one children appeared on ABC's Good Morning America earlier today (January 15) and performed their cover of the iconic song, along with singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, which they recorded on Monday at the home studio of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, two former members of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club rock bands.

10-year-old Sandy Hook student Jane Shearin explained her reasons for taking part: "I really want to be kind to the people who have lost their loved ones and help them to recover from their sorrow."

Kayla Verga, 10, added that she was singing for 6-year-old Jessica Rekos, who died in the tragedy: "Singing the song makes me feel like she's with me and she's beside me, singing along with me."

A message underneath the YouTube video (which you can see below) explains that "the proceeds from the sale of the song and the advertising with this video will benefit the Newtown Youth Academy and the United Way of Western Connecticut."
