Justin Timberlake, Macklemore and Miley Cyrus for MTV VMAs

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are among the big-hitting nominees for this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The star-studded awards ceremony is due to take place on August 25 in Brooklyn as the cream of pop music comes together to celebrate videos.

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have bagged six nominations each as they dominate many of the ceremony's categories.

Timberlake's 'Mirrors' clip is up for the Best Male Video for example whilst Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 'Can't Hold Us' is up for Best Hip-Hop Video.

Miley Cyrus has received three nods - Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Editing - whilst Robin Thicke and P!nk have also bagged three.

Bruno Mars has gone one better, however, and is nominated in four categories - Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Male Video and Best Choreography.

The event's main category - Video of the Year - will be battled out by Timberlake's 'Mirrors', Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 'Thrift Shop', Mars' 'Locked Out Of Heaven', Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' and Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble'.
