Robin Thicke: "'I Love It' reminds me of my relationship"

Robin Thicke chose to cover Icona Pop's 'I Love It' as he felt the lyrics were "fitting" to his relationship.

The singer covered the hit on Radio 1's Live Lounge programme, which sees stars performing a current chart record.

Thicke is married to actress Paula Patton (pictured on the left) and said the song reminded him of his love affair with his gorgeous wife.

Speaking to MTV News he explained: "The funny thing is, I heard the song a week earlier, before the Icona Pop cover. And they ask you when you do this show ... to do a song that's within the Top 40 at the moment. And I thought, 'What about that song?' 'Cause I thought the lyrics were very fitting to my relationship.

He laughed: "'Crash my car into a bridge,' it's a metaphor. I've been there many times in my relationship, so I felt like burning clothes and throwing things down stairs, crashing into a bridge — that's all me, very me — and still loving it."

Thicke says although he loves the song he's glad the Swedish DJ duo recorded it before him.

He continued: "Right from the first line, I was like, 'I totally connect with that, sounds like I wrote it.' It wouldn't have been as much fun if I sang it.

He added: "As you can tell, I always got to take it down the brown liquor path. It ended up being a nice song to do."
