Mariah Carey on 'American Idol': 'It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan'

Vocal powerhouse Mariah Carey has admitted that she "hated" being part of 'American Idol' and used to dread going into work every day while she was a panelist on the TV talent show.

During an interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez earlier today (November 13), the superstar confessed that her job as a panelist on the show wasn't something she genuinely enjoyed:

"Honestly, I hated it. Here's what it was. I was the first person who signed on... I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice... monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay, Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing'."

Carey added dramatically: "But it wasn't that... It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Despite her negative feelings towards the show and being a judge on it, she confessed that the one part of it she liked was working with people who were passionate about music and who really wanted to focus on their vocal ability:

"You know what I loved? I loved the contestants. And some of them that were so good -- and also really good people, you could tell -- it was disappointing when [the judges] would, for political reasons, not put people through."
