London By Night by Isaac Chris
Isaac Didn't Rush Into London By Night
Isaac Chris combines rapping with a more traditional approach to create his own unique songs. He harnesses his English and French background to generate an original style. London by Night, Isaac’s first single, released on 11 November 2013, reflects the multi-culturalism he shares with London when he raps in French on the chorus.
Although his influences include P. Diddy, Jay Z, Usher, and Tinie Tempah, Isaac calls himself mainly RnB.
Football’s loss has turned out to be music’s gain. Isaac trained alongside Samuel Eto of Chelsea FC at Kadji Sports Academy. Despite his lack of ideal height, Isaac showed promise as a goalkeeper for Bromley-by-Bow FC, but was over-ruled for his short stature when asked to trial for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Ultimately an injury ended his football career and Isaac realised a lifelong dream by turning to music. Classically, he also puts his losses in love down as a main trigger for his song-writing.
That said, Football has taught Isaac some valuable lessons. “Being a footballer taught me the beauty of discipline and belief. Honestly, I wouldn’t have the drive to succeed in music, were it not for my experience as a footballer,” says Isaac.
Simple and visual lyrics such as, “I fancy a car ride; I wanna enjoy London by night,” sum up the atmosphere of London at night, especially set to an urban groove. The French lyrics in the rap add an original touch, while bringing to mind classics such as Youssou N'Dour in “7 Seconds” with Neneh Cherry.
London By Night starts with a clubby violin and a high soulful vocal, which leads to a chorus with a distinctive hook, enhanced by a rap. The song has romance at its core.
Isaac says he took 6 months to come up for the idea with his sound. However this paid off when mastering engineer at Abbey Road Studios, Geoff Pesche, who has recently put finishing touches down for Gorillaz, Basement Jaxx and Dizzee Rascal, predicted London By Night to be “a hit”.
