Nathan Sykes: 'A Top 30 record today should be counted as a very good success'

Musician and singer Nathan Sykes has revealed that he feels "sad" to think that the demands of factors such as airplay and audience reaction have overshadowed the weight that should be held by achieving a Top 40 chart position.

The "Over and Over Again" sensation explained to Digital Spy that the way the industry is changing means that chart positions don't mean as much anymore, which he thinks is a shame:

"With The Wanted, we'd look at anything outside the Top 10 as a disappointment, but now, because how the chart system has changed, you're looking at a Top 30 record and counting that as a very good success. You're looking at the airplay chart and audience reaction, and so chart position as such has unfortunately become less and less important, which is really sad."

Nathan Sykes added: "Now because of day/date release and streaming, it's a completely different ball game. Whereas before you'd hope to fly straight in at No.1, not many artists can do that now."

His highly anticipated debut studio album, entitled Unfinished Business, is due to be officially released on November 4 and his latest single "Famous" is out now.
