Avril Lavigne launches campaign to raise awareness for Lyme disease

Avril Lavigne is hoping to raise awareness of Lyme disease with a new campaign.

The singer was struck down by the bacterial infection after being diagnosed with it in 2014.

The Canadian is continuing her recovery from the debilitating disease, which is spread by ticks.

However, the musician has now started a new Avril Lavigne Foundation campaign to raise funds for young people suffering from Lyme disease.

Part of the five-week project will see Lavigne work with Prizeo to offer a winner a speaking role in her new film Charming.

The singer commented: "I'm excited that this year's campaign is supporting people with Lyme disease and helping others to better understand this issue.

"My fans are always so supportive and ready to give back; I look forward to coming together for an issue that's so close to me."

The Avril Lavigne Foundation was started by the singer in 2010 to support young people with "serious illnesses or disabilities".
