Anticipation rises for Avril Lavigne's eagerly awaited global Head Above Water tour

Avril Lavigne is set to play her first shows abroad in nearly a decade.

Lavigne first announced the news last month, as previously reported.

The Canadian superstar is set to take her Head Above Water tour to Swizerland, Italy, Brussels, Belgium, Austria, Netherlands, Czech Republic, France, Germany and the UK, before heading onto Japan, China and South East Asia.

It will be the first time the 35-year-old has performed abroad since 2011's The Black Star Tour.

Lavigne has just finished her first North American tour here, admitting being back on stage after five years has brought her so much happiness after her long battle with Lyme disease, which she fell ill with in 2014.

The shows are in support of her album Head Above Water, which documents her battle with the illness. The record was released in February and is her first studio effort since her self-titled 2013 record.

Lavigne revealed: "Music has been more healing than ever for me.

"I was at a point where I wasn't sure whether I'd be working or even doing music again, and then I started writing songs from my bedroom.

"'Head Above Water' and 'Warrior' were the first two songs that I wrote, and then they just kept coming. It was cool for me to see because it showed me that music is such a big part of who I am without even thinking about it or trying to make a record.

"We had the most amazing time performing on the US Head Above Water Tour!! I can’t believe how quickly it went by.

"Seeing all your faces each night and feeling your energy was exactly what I needed. I truly missed being up on stage, singing with you and this has brought me so much happiness which is why I’m even more excited to announce that I’ll be taking the Head Above Water Tour worldwide next year with dates in Europe, Japan, China and Southeast Asia!"
