Jason Derulo on fracturing neck: 'I walked to my car, which could have killed me'

'The Other Side' hitmaker Jason Derulo has revealed to The Guardian newspaper that the short space of time following his neck fracture could have killed him as he didn't realise how serious the injury was.

During an interview with the British newspaper, the singer explained that he managed to get up and walk to his car despite having fractured his C2 vertebra, which shockingly is the same injury that occurs during hanging:

"I tried to move my extremities. I could move everything except my neck. I got up, which could have killed me. I walked to the car, which could have killed me."

He added that recovery was so intense that he struggled to do the most basic things: "You can't do normal things, man. You can't tie your shoelaces. You can't take a shower yourself. You're always in need. The simplest tasks were suddenly the hardest things in the world."

Derulo added: "If the accident has taught me anything, it's that I'm more comfortable being myself. I feel that the person on stage is me, just amplified 10 times. They told me to take it easy, but I want to take it further."
