Carly Rae Jepsen pulls out of Boy Scouts Jamboree over anti-gay policy

'Call Me Maybe' songstress Carly Rae Jepsen has confirmed that she won't be performing at this year's Boy Scouts of America Jamboree in July because of the organisation's anti-gay agenda.

In a series of Twitter posts shared this afternoon, the Canadian star explained that the Scouts' ban on gay members conflicts with her own beliefs in equality for all so she can not appear at the event on moral grounds:

"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer... I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level." She added that she will "stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

Gay Eagle Scout Derek Nance started a petition at Change.org that specifically urged her not to perform at the concert and it has since attracted over 60,000 signatures. Nance said: "I came out as gay because I realized the best way to help end this dangerous policy is to stand up, speak out and tell the organization I love to do the right thing."

"A Scout is brave, and I'm thrilled that Carly Rae and Train have joined me in standing up for what is right. I hope the Boy Scouts of America also choose to be brave this May."
