Russian politician wants Madonna to be prosecuted for promoting gay rights

A Russian politician has called for Madonna to be prosecuted after she promoted gay rights during her gig at St Petersburg earlier this week.

The Material Girl, who encouraged the audience to show their appreciation for the gay community at Thursday night’s show, has angered St Petersburg City leader Vitaly Milonov, who has requested for her to be charged with 'illegal propaganda,' according to RIA Novosti.

Milonov has reportedly asked city officials to fine both the ‘Hung Up’ star and the tour’s promoters, although no charges have been filed as of yet.

The news comes in the same week that Russian deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin appeared to label Madonna a whore in a tweet following her support for punk band Pussy Riot, who have been accused of inciting religious hatred for criticising Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
