Letter by Tupac due to be auctioned sheds light about why he broke up with Madonna

A three-page letter due to be auctioned sheds light on the reason behind the break-up between Tupac Shakur and Madonna.

Dated January 15 1995, the letter would have been written whilst Shakur was serving a four-and-a-half year sentence for sexual assault.

The reasons seem to be racial, he wrote:

"For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardise your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting.

"But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you.

"Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with an extremely famous sex symbol."

Madonna confirmed the two were in a relationship a couple of years ago. The letter will be auctioned off on the Gotta Have Rock and Roll website this month.

Shakur was bailed from prison in October 1995 and was shot dead in September 1996.

The letter was published by TMZ earlier this week and Rolling Stone have authenticated it. The spokespeople for both Madonna and Shakur's estate have yet to comment.
