Alicia Keys launches interactive app for children

'Fallin'' sensation Alicia Keys has designed an exclusive app for smartphones and tablets that will appeal especially to children.

The songstress, who became a mother herself in 2010, created the software to bring storytelling to the new technology-savvy generation and explained that she was inspired by memories of her grandmother reading to her as a youngster so wanted to bring this idea up to date and make it widely accessible:

"It's a new adventure for me, and I'm really enjoying it. It does remind me of my world. The piano, the journal, music's such a big part of my life, the city, all of that."

The app, called The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee, is available to download from today (October 25) and will enable users to read, play music and write in an e-journal using their device. Keys added:

"I was just getting introduced to... the TV shows and the DVDs and all the things you start kind of introducing your kids to, and I thought how cool it would be to be a part of something that really allows them to hear music from different places, different cultures, different sounds. That's what we're able to do with this."
