Girls Aloud named biggest selling girl group of 21st Century

'The Loving Kind' beauties Girls Aloud are celebrating yet another milestone on the eve of their tenth anniversary (October 19) as they've been crowned the biggest selling girl group of the 21st Century by the Official Charts Company.

The ladies will mark their 10-year career anniversary tomorrow and have even more reason to enjoy it because over the past decade they have racked up over 4.3 million singles sales and have scored 20 Top 10 hits - including 4 No.1 singles - and this impressive feat has earned them the title.

The Official Charts Company confirmed that the group's most popular single was their '02 debut, 'Sound of the Underground, which shifted an amazing 653,000 copies in the UK, and it was also Girls Aloud's fastest selling single, shifting 213,000 copies in its first week of sale in December 2002.

Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company, said in an official statement: "With a staggering 20 Top 10 singles and four Number 1s, we’re delighted to officially crown Girls Aloud as the UK’s biggest selling girl group of the 21st Century."

"As the Official Charts Company gears up to celebrate 60 years of the Official Singles Chart next month, we wish a huge congratulations to Nadine, Cheryl, Nicola, Sarah and Kimberley on their own 10 poptastic years in music!"
