One Direction member describes Olympic gig as 'best night of my life'

London played host to the Olympic Closing Ceremony last night (August 12) and boyband One Direction rocked the crowd with a surprise performance.

The lads sang a rendition of their chart-topping hit 'What Makes You Beautiful' on the back of a moving flat-bed lorry and member Louis Tomlinson revealed to fans this morning that it was one of the best nights of his life:

"Last night was unbelievable. I cannot believe we had the honour to perform at the Olympics! Has to be one of the best nights off [sic] my life! I also want to say what an incredible job London did for hosting such a huge event. We have made our country proud!"

Tomlinson then returned to social networking site Twitter to thank the group's fans for their continued support and admitted it was them that secured One Direction the impressive slot:

"You guys got us the gig at the Olympics. Can't thank you all enough!"

Zayn Malik attracted a lot of attention at the Closing Ceremony by unveiling a new look, which sent his online fans into a tweeting frenzy.
