Nick Cave announces the split of Grinderman

Nick Cave announced the split of his musical project, Grinderman, at the Meredith Music Festival in Australia this weekend.

The festival gig was the final date of their current tour, with other band members Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. The Vine are reporting that Cave told the crowd that the group were "over" at the end of their set:

"That's it for Grinderman. It's over. See you all in another ten years when we'll be even older and uglier."

The Vine are also reporting that their set was "powerful" and "physical" so many of the fans were left wondering if they had heard the singer correctly.

Grinderman's self-titled debut album was released in 2007 and the follow-up, 'Grinderman 2', was released in 2010.

The band have not released an official statement to explain their split.
