British funnyman Russell Brand stopped by Howard Stern's radio show yesterday morning (July 18) and opened up about his short marriage to pop sensation Katy Perry.

Although the comedian was there to discuss his new show, Brand X, he was asked a series of questions about the 'Teenage Dream' singer and explained that while he loved her "so much" they wanted different things from their relationship:

"I loved her so much, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do [getting married]... I just loved her so much. We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasn't we worked it out... It was a lovely relationship... it mostly didn't work for practical reasons... We did work it out, she's happy, I'm happy."

Brand didn't elaborate on the "practical reasons" that caused them to divorce, but he did confess that his desire to have a family came at the wrong time in Perry's career:

"She's young, successful and dedicated. [The reality is] you can't fully understand it until you do it. I was really into the idea of marriage and having children."
