Carly Rae Jepsen: 'I take a compass my boyfriend gave me everywhere I go'

Songstress Carly Rae Jepsen has opened up about the things she keeps in her bag while travelling the world performing to fans.

Speaking to Us Weekly, the 'Call Me Maybe' Canadian beauty explained that there's one keepsake in particular she never goes anywhere without:

"The absolute most sentimental thing I keep on me is a compass my boyfriend gave me. It's my direction home."

The hitmaker added that she often keeps a selection of treats on hand in her bag for an on the road snack: "I have a thing for Gummi bears and also weird gum like lemon meringue and chocolate chip mint. They're so delicious."

She also reflected on the progression of her career and confessed that when she first started out, she would pay her band in food because she didn't have the money to cover their services: "It's very surreal to me at times, because I think back to maybe two years ago and my career then versus now."

"The first time that I toured Canada was in the soccermom van [minivan], with the boys that I'm still playing stadiums with now. I was paying them with home-cooked dinners because that's all I could afford, and rushing to my merchandising table to sell shirts afterwards."
