Sir Cliff Richard: 'One Direction have to compete with me'

'Summer Holiday' legend Sir Cliff Richard has revealed that despite being overtaken in the calendar sales stakes by boyband One Direction, he still feels that he is more commercially successful than then lads.

He appeared on BBC Breakfast earlier today (November 15) to promote the release of his 100th record, 'The Fabulous Rock 'n' Roll Songbook', and told the presenters that his career is huge in comparison to that of the 'Best Song Ever' heartthrobs':

“I am cool because I am still successful, after all this year One Direction still have to compete with me.”

He went on to talk about the fact that One Direction's calendar sold more copies than his earlier this autumn, adding: "Someone has to take over, it has become a pressure now for me after all these years constantly being number one with the calendar, and I may well be number one next year I don't know.

Earlier this year, Cliff Richard told London's Metro newspaper that he would consider teaming up with One Direction for a collaboration if they are interested: "I've heard One Direction now, and think that each one of them has a terrific voice. So if they ever decide to do a duet I'm available, but not cheap!"
